Tomorrow’s Energy: A fireside chat with Mike Koralewski ’94, Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer for First Solar

First Solar, the nation’s largest domestic manufacturer of solar panels, is ramping up capacity to address the demands of transitioning energy economies. Join us to hear Mike Koralewski ’94 talk about meeting these challenges and catch up with fellow Case alumni who share an interest in energy innovation. Former ThinkEnergy Fellow Marlena Praprost ’17, MS ’18, a research engineer at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will moderate the discussion. The backdrop is the recent UN Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, where experts again called for a rapid transition to sustainable and renewable energy sources.

Michael Koralewski

Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer

Michael “Mike” Koralewski was appointed Chief Manufacturing Operations Officer of First Solar in July 2020. In this role Mike has responsibility for the global manufacturing operations strategy, which includes expansion, daily operations, supply chain and purchasing for First Solar’s module technology. Mike provides over twenty years of global operational experience to the executive leadership team. He joined First Solar in 2006, serving in several senior roles in operations and quality management, including senior vice president, global manufacturing; vice president, global site operations and plant manager; and vice president, global quality. In all of these roles Mike has been significantly involved since the beginning of First Solar’s manufacturing scaling and expansion from site selection through sustaining operations. Prior to joining First Solar, Mike worked at Dana Incorporated where he held several positions with global responsibility in operations and quality management. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering from Case Western Reserve University and a Master of Business Administration from Bowling Green State University. He currently serves on the executive boards for Toledo’s Science Center, Imagination Station and Lourdes University. Mike resides in Monclova, OH with his wife Jennifer and their children Katelyn, a senior at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh and Collin, a freshman at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.

MEET THE Moderator

Marley Praprost graduated from CWRU with a BS and MS in Mechanical Engineering and is a 2016-17 ThinkEnergy Fellow. Marley now works at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colorado as a Commercial Buildings Research Engineer. Her work involves developing and analyzing a model of the United States commercial building stock to evaluate the impacts of a vast range of energy conservation measures and technologies
